DAY EIGHT
Ann blogs: I was shopping yesterday then contractualization
Yesterday, i was shopping at the mall to buy my friend a gift for her wedding last may 27. it has been so late na. i chose this one new product in the market which is a chopping machine. this is how it works.. it's a small appratus with bending clades in three waves, you'll just put the recipes inside its container to chop with pushing of you hands. it's great! i know cel will like it coz she's been into catering business and i am sure how she loves cooking...
But anyway, the real story about yesterday are the sales ladies of the shops where i got into. one sales lady in the department store but not attending to me was smiling. i was thinking why because i don't know her. when my business was done with the promo girl, it was fun to hear her remark-- tama, ma'am ikaw nga yun.. it turns out, i bought an appliance from her last month, another gift for a friend who wed also. then, i went to another shop. a friendly and nice-looking sales lady approached me and did her usual sales talk. i was looking for a perfume. i tried to buy my favorite perfume at her bench (it's wisdom) but then i changed my mind. i had to try another scent for a change. until the wave pushed me to the sales lady's shop. i didn't know why a lot of people recognize my face to think i have been hibernating. the kind sales lady also told me, ma'am, you look familiar? hindi ko lang matandaan kung saan ko kayo nakita. it's funny because it's natural that someone would recognize me because i just live nearby the shops. but i didn't know why the sales ladies still have to PR me because even if they do not sales talk, i would really buy their products. the thought of people recognizing your face just strucked :) i hope i can be friends with them too. but considering the condition of these mall employees, i am sure i can't make no further relationships with them. i also have already observed this in the past when i bought a new pc and then the shop crew were so kind that i want to be more familiar. but then time came when they were already transferred to another store branch. the reality of the contractualization law, or what is better known as the herrera law is very apparent. its provisions has lead to our labor force further worsening condition. they are already low paid, then, their freedom to enjoy long lasting relationship with their clients was also put in vain. how would you feel if you are scheduled to be in that store for five or six months, and then after the period, get unemployed, or transferred to some other place as ordered by management? the herrera law dehumanizes our work force just like machines. the law wants them to become impersonal in every business transactions they undertake with human clients. what's the use in being human but then you'll be restricted to be one? mall employees especially those in the department store are forbidden to make friends with their customers. they will have to face the wrath of their managers if they do. does it have to be always that way? i mean can't employees enjoy their time in the workplace but still meeting their target sales or quota for the day? the law has many loopholes that should be reviewed, and this issue is incidentally just one of those. yes, it will open more jobs to the unemployed especially that the country has high employment rate but are more important human factors have to be sacrificed for increased employment? yes, the law will give more jobs but what about being human? contractual employees cannot receive bonuses and other benefits like regular employees. their employment are fixed to five months to six months full. can't there be a way for these employees to be permanent and regular in their jobs? maybe performance measures can help to give deserving workers chance to have lifetime security of employment. contractual employees can be assessed and depending on the results of assessments, become or not become regular on their jobs. people gets older and what will happen when these contractual workers get old, where will they source out resources to feed their family and children? does the government can't do anything about it?
