Results of the 5th Nomination

"Pat sejak":
I give my evicting points to emjheiy, hindi sya nakikipagcommunicate to her fellow virtual housemates. and my saving points goes to charles, kahit paano nageexert sya ng effort to communicate with his fellow virtual housemate.

"SURI": i will give my -1 saving points to gee. she has been active and consistent from day 1 until day 70. now, the hard part in the nomination, giving the evicting points. i find it hard to give this but i had to, eventually the game participants had to be trimmed down in order for it to be finished. soon i know i will also have to be pondered of being one to be evicted. i know she will understand this. my +2 evicting points to emijheiy.

"Hoseal Gayman": I'm giving my evicting points to ehmjheiy. i didn't feel her presence during the reward challenge (considering the fact that she knows that there is a reward challenge, unlike ron, who didn't show up... he might have no idea about those activity). my saving point is for jinelle because I felt his interest and will to help and finish the activity of his groupmates.

"Sergoniai": vote EMJHEIY for eviction, kasi hndi cia lagi nagpaparticipate sa mga activity namin... wala ring masyadong blogpost, at di rin nag-oonline sa YM... i vote JINELLE to be saved, i think he needs my saving power.

"Retinoblastoma": First, thanks to everyone who saved me last week. :) The game's slowly taking a turn now and the peoplewho really deserved to stay have so far made it.:) Congratulations to everyone. No BS, the final 9 IS the best 9, imho. Unfortunately, the game has to claim one morevictim and on pure strategy alone, I have to vote out Emjheiy. Im really sorry ate. :) This is nothing personal - Im sure you know that. +2 to you. I would choose to save Charles. He wont be gettingvotes today but I dont think he has ever beensaved. At least now, he'll know how it feels to besaved.

"Thinkerbell": Evict: em jheiy becuase she doenst really participate that much in this competition.. minsan minsan lang cya maging active.. Save: charles. wala lang gusto ko lang cya isave.
[BALLOT INVALIDATED]

EMJHEIY, REX and RON get +5 penalty points each for not participating in the Nomination.
JINELLE's ballot is invalidated and gets +2 penalty points.
BENJ was penalized (+2 points) for the late submission of Activity
EMJHEIY was penalized (+2 points) for posting her blog in his diary
REX was penalized (+2 points) for replying to a visitor's comment

Rex blogs: Face to face?

Okay, before you read the rest of this post, promise that you will not judge my whole character based on this post alone. Please understand that each person has his or her own idiosyncrasies. This is mine, so deal with it. =p

I have a life-changing decision that I need to make as soon as possible. Actually, my deadline is on September 3, 2006. Because the following day, Westlife is going to have a concert at the Aranet Coliseum!

Bwahaha! I know you're probably thinking: ang baduy ko! Waaaa! =p But, is it my fault to be a huge fan of them, no matter how cheesy, mushy and uncool boy bands supposedly are?

As some of you who's reading been this blog at least since last May know, I'm been a Westlife fanatic in my high school years. And man, that was eons ago! I was only 13 then, and you're probably thinking I didn't know what real music was back then, hehe.

This is the third time that Westlife will be in Manila. I wasn't able to watch them on their first time here, because I was in Bahrain at that time. But a year after, they came back, and I made sure that I will be able to watch.

Honestly, I didn't enjoy that concert as much as I should've. The waiting from lunchtime to showtime wasn't worth it. You see, I only had the Upper Box B ticket (P850), so it's free seating (meaning, the earlier I get in, the better chances for a better seat). Well, I got as close as the barrier would let me. I even had a pair of binoculars. But I HATED THE CROWD!! Ang ingay nila! As in sobra!

Yeah, I know it's a concert, so technically, the place should be noisy. Add the fact that probably 90% of the crowd are screaming doting girls who long for Westlife for their looks, haha! The 10% comprises the parents who accompanied their crazy daughters and weird statistical rarities like me. But why can't they just shut up especially during the performances and let us all hear the music that we all came for? Naku, yung katabi ko noon, gusto kong ihulog sa Lower Box, kasi sigaw siya nang sigaw! May birthday banner pa siyang dala (it was incidentally, one of Westlife's member's birthday).

But of course, I still enjoyed it, kahit papaano. But I promised myself that the next time they'll perform here, I'm gonna buy the more expensive ticket so I wouldn't have to put through with the crazy noisy girls again.

So now, I have this probably last chance to watch them. Hindi na nga sila kumpleto eh. And I still hasn't reserved a ticket. P3000 kasi yung price nang pinaka-murang reserve seating na ticket. Ayoko na kasing pumila no. I'm 21 for crying out loud. I'm not same old fan who would fall in line the whole day for a measly spot in the huge venue. I just want to enjoy the night and the music that would take me back to my high school years. Gusto kong pumunta ng Araneta, pumasok, manood, lumabas at umuwi nang walang aberya. That's all. No more hoping that through divine intervention, I would be able to meet them backstage. No more socializing with fellow fanatics, some of which even skipped work just to be able to watch, haha!

Anyway, wala nga pala akong pera for the concert. Gusto mo kong pautangin? Babayaran kita in 3 months, haha! =p

Benj blogs: Can you dig this?

Oh boy, did you see this coming? haha

I went to school with a white baseball cap and nobody noticed. I think it’s a 60-40 split - with a slight edge to people who like it. Some people said I looked like a skunk (yup, that was the point) or Cruella from 101 Dalmatians. haha

Rex is penalized with +2 points

Ann on overrated love

Rex is right sometimes people look at love overratedly, as if we just live only for love. but kahit na ano pa mangyari, life is really about it. it's just all about balancing everything which few people, maybe including me, fail to do. ***

DAY SIXTY-EIGHT
Charles blogs: Priorities

They say that planning one’s life is setting priorities straight. Correct!

I dont know why I was so out of it these past weeks. Last night, I stayed up until midnight, making lesson plans, and just this morning, I woke up at 7 am to finish my visual aids, and I actually ran into my classroom, having just beaten the bell. Its just setting my short term priorities.

I am constantly telling everyone my goal, finish my bachelor studies, take up masters degree immediately, go to other country, have my own family, take up doctoral degree(s), set up a University! But all that belongs to my Long Term Priorities.

But for now, I need to set short term priorities, like making and submitting my requirements on time, study for the lessons, and sleep on time. Why do I keep missing these, you ask? Man, I am hooked with community forums, like ABS-CBN forums, pex and PT, and of course, watching television shows! But now’s definitely wrong time to get hooked, when the list of need-to-do is getting longer and longer!

Just one thing made me extremely happy this week, its receiving an excellent mark in my observation class. Just yesterday, Wednesday, my college supervisor paid me a surprise visit, luckily I am always ready, visuals and lessons, but its all based on my talent to teach. As I say to my classmates, its all in passion and, well, priorities.

Rex blogs: Unpopular Opinion 1: Love is overrated

I'm going to start a new feature on my blog and it'll be about my unpopular opinions. But what qualifies as 'unpopular'? Hmm, let's say if at least 60% of the general public think otherwise, then I will be the unpopular one, haha!

Since it's my first time, I'm gonna talk about something that would probably solitict much violent reactions from you my dear blog visitors and blog hoppers. That should translate to more comments, haha!

"Love is overrated."

The first time I thought of this was when I was an applicant of the UP Volleyball Club. There was this bit on the sigsheet where I should write my 'philosophy on love'. Of course, I could stick to the artsy pantsy cliches like love is blind or love is never jealous, etc. I didn't want to pick out something from books or the movies. So bigla ko na lang naisip, love is overrated.

As expected, whenever a member saw my sigsheet, they would react to my bold statement. Common initial reactions were, "Ang bitter mo naman yata!". On the contrary. Although I must admit, I went through my own periods of bitterness on love, hehe. My heart has had its own share of 'down' moments. But at that time, I really wasn't bitter anymore. But I'm not saccharine about it either.

Before you judge me, hehe, let me explain myself.

Love is overrated for me because I hate the way most people equate happiness with love alone. I mean, there's more to life than finding 'the one' for you. If you're in love, then good for you. But if you're not, it should not take it toll on your self-perception either.

To love is probably the best thing that could happen in your life. Note that my operative word is 'probably', hehe. You see, I haven't been most lucky when it comes to this. Reciprocated love is too elusive for me, hehe. But I'm okay with it. These days, you won't ever find me sulking up in one corner, wondering haplessly why the hell I'm still single at 21. Like I said, minsan din akong naging Bitter Ocampo. But I'm through that phase. I'm through feeling bad about myself when I shouldn't be at all.

Hindi ko alam kung kailang ako magkaka-syotang muli. Feeling ko na nga, tatanda na akong binata, haha! But while I'm still single, I'm gonna enjoy the perks of being one at its fullest. For now, I'd rather vent all the 'love' I could give to my friends and family, who all deserve it. But when I finally meet 'the one', I'm gonna make sure I'm gonna enjoy its perks to the fullest either. Pana-panahon lang iyan.

Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao have 'it'.
Take one syllable from "Pilipinas Game Ka Na Ba? and one syllable from "Eat Bulaga". Put them together and you will get the answer.

First Group to send the answer (thru Friendster) wins Round 3. Each group has only one chance to answer. Answers sent after 11:59PM Saturday are invalid.

Elementary Level indeed -Benj

I would like to apologize to my teammates. I lied. I havent been working on the poster. I actually rushed this poster at around 515 pm.

Charles, when you asked me about it... Di ko pa nasisimulan. Buti nanalo, di naman ako masyadong pahamak. hehe

---

On the game though, it just dawned to me that the best 9 players have made it through. The final 9 all deserve where they are now. At this point though, I can only see two (maybe three) players with a realistic chance of winning.

5th Nomination starts

Nomination runs from Thursday (12:01am) until Saturday (11:59pm). Each VH must submit his/her ballot with explanation why he/she votes against and for a particular VH. VHs who failed to nominate before the deadline shall automatically receive 5 point "to evict" votes. VHs with invalid ballots will no longer be notified and will automatically receive a +2 penalty points.

A new codename is needed for every Nomination. Choosing nominees through lottery is prohibited. The announcement of the results of the nomination (the Eviction) is on Sunday 6PM.

Results of Round 2

Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Group Trifecta (1st photo) and B.K.A. (2nd photo) works are mediocre. Both posters lack creativity. There was no impact. A grade school stud can do better than the works of the two group. But BBK has to choice a winner and it is B.K.A. The poster made by Trifecta (1st photo) has 609 x 449 pixel size instead of the required 600 x 450.

The Hot Chicks used MS Publisher for thier poster and was disqualified.

Gee blogs: Buddy Contest and others...

Parang kailan lang, Ate Andrea and I won it and look, Buddy Contest na naman! haha! Reminiscing!

The purpose of this contest is to get to know your BUDDY ( who will guide the apps to their application process sa org.).

So, ngayong member na ako ng FLIPP, I'm so grateful na may Buddy ako... Si Kelvin Samson a.k.a. KELVS... So what happenned to us? Haha! Actually, we didn't make it. Yung round 1, it's sort of COMPATIBILITY game. The INAF officers made quessies about anything involving our precious lives. Dapat pareho kami ng answers ni buddy. May 3 stages ( easy, average, difficult). sa EASY DAW, may 5 mistakes kami ni buddy... Sa AVERAGE pa lang daw, madami! AND sa DIFFICULT which is 5 quessies lang, nasagutan namin lahat! haha...

Then round 2, FLEXIBILITY GAME... a.k.a. FUNNY BONES. hayyy... Nakatagal naman kami... It's so funny nga lang sa pic, kasi medyo malaswa yung dating ng pic namin ( good thing may kasama kami dun, hihi...). Well, I think no one can defeat Ami and Yan's SCANDALOUS pic... hehe...

Round 3>>> EGG CATCHING... errr... tangertz pa naman ako sa pagsalo! Hay, natanggal kami! kasi bigla na lang tumaas yung level ng energy ko and napasobra ang paghagis ko!

Round 4>>> QUIZ BEE... Yay! ACADS! hehe... 4/5 yung nakuha namin (akalain mo yun? hehe...).

Round 5. CREATIVE PRESENTATION....

Nga pala, may names yung bawat BUDDY:
*COOKIES AND CREAM - Ami and Yan

Why Butterfly? kasi we both like Mariah Carey... haha!

So, I think we're third or fourth to the last? I forgot na eh...

Un lng... hehe... (next tym na ung video! hehe...)

Benj blogs: Time Walk

Names will be concealed to protect the identities of the people involved. lol
Person #1: EP
Person #2: AdC
Person #3: GM
Person #4: PR
Person #5: BE

I saw this picture on my barkada mailing list home page so I decided to post it. Clearly, this pic has a a lot going for it.

Background: The five people on the photo met each other at Pilipinas Shell Tabangao Refinery. All their dads (and for AdC’s case, parents) worked for the oil firm and all have spent a considerable part of their lives living with subsidized electricity, water, phone bills and cable (translation: Airconditioning 24/7) plus the amenities of living inside a nice gated golf club. Summers and weekends were spent playing basketball, shooting pool, playing golf, swimming, camping - you get the idea, basically doing whatever could pass the time.

AdC’s family left the Philippines back in 2000 for greener pastures in the land where kangaroos roam and it was AdC’s first time to go back home. The five met up at Glorietta to finish up some drinks at cable car (this was back in the time when BE was still into killing his brain cells with alcohol - he has since converted to being straightedge) and to watch the Rob Schneider starrer, Hot Chick (not my idea, don’t blame me). It was BE’s idea to have the picture taken so that AdC could have a memento worth taking to his twin brother, BdC who went back to Australia one month ahead of his twin.

EP went from hapless back-up singer to amazing guitarist in a few short years (read: 2). He is in musical project with BE - that’s been dormant for over two years now. He graduated Cum Laude from the UP College of Engineering.

AdC is currently a college junior at the University of… darn it, I dunno where the hell he studies but Im quite sure he studies somewhere in the suburbs of Melbourne.

GM is a engineering graduate from DLSU turned college professor turned electronics firm techie. He can tug your heartstrings with his amazing renditions of Basil Valdez, Gary V and Martin Nievera (woohoo idol! hehe) classics.

PR is a the oldest and it also that he is also the fattest. He’s a programmer from a highly reputable company and bleeds GREEN through and through. Despite rumors, he’s nowhere near 40 years old.

BE, seen here with inexcusably long hair is a med student. He actually kept growing the hair up to 7 months after this photo was taken.

Haha, that was fun.

Bayan Muna official killed in Kalinga, husband critical
By Villamor Visaya Inquirer
Last updated 01:36pm (Mla time) 07/31/2006

(UPDATE) QUEZON, Isabela — A Bayan Muna official in Kalinga was killed while her husband and child were wounded when masked armed men aboard a black van ambushed them early Monday along the national highway in Barangay (village) Bulanao in the town of Tabuk, in the province, police said.

Superintendent Pedro Ramos, Kalinga police director, said Bayan Muna-Kalinga chairman Dr. Constancio “Chandu” Claver, his wife Alice, Bayan Muna coordinator, and Sandy, 11, were attacked at 7 a.m. by two men armed with an Armalite and caliber .45 guns in front of the Saint Toni’s College.

They were brought to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital, according to Inquirer reports.

The same reports said that contrary to a statement by Ramos earlier on Monday that Alice was declared dead on arrival, the Bayan Muna coordinator was
still alive when she was brought to the hospital where she died at 12:45 p.m.

Gkachay Claver, a cousin of the Dr. Claver, gave a similar report to
INQ7.net following the shooting.

Constancio is in critical condition while Sandy has sustained a minor injury, the Inquirer reports said.

Ramos said the suspects alighted from their black van, without a plate number, and shot the Clavers.

With a report from Thea Alberto; Inquirer Northern Luzon Bureau

You all know how I feel about the political left.

I could go on for paragraphs, but for the interest of saving real estate in cyberspace, let me just say that left reminds me a lot of one of nature’s most enduring and sturdy survivors - the cockroach. Just like roaches, the left seems to be never fully exterminated no matter what measures are undertaken by the government.

The leftists seems to have had it with the current bias of ruling bodies in all countries to veer towards globalization - a potentially disastrous setup for the Philippines but one that is virtually inevitably inescapable. Whereas the opposition towards globalization and the status quo in general would’ve sufficed, people actually go the extra mile and align themselves with a far more obsolete concept in Communism. Aside from the fact that most formerly communist states have already turned their back on this outdated paradigm, aligning oneself on a much-maligned and charged ideology just draws attention from the powers that be. It’s nothing short of suicide.

That’s why when things like the one in the write up happen, most people hardly bat an eyelash. Seriously, can you feel the UP community up in arms about the abduction of two female senior college students from Bulacan? Is the UP College of Medicine simmering in its own wrath as news of a defenseless doctor’s family was gunned down?

No. Is it apathy? I really wouldn’t think so. Sure, people would feel bad the moment they read the propaganda poster on the wall, but after that, what would does people do? Do they take action? Hell no. Most people no that joining a leftist organization is an unnecessary burden to oneself. Why is opposition needed to be done in such a grandiose fashion? By joining such an organization, there is a calculated risk taken by the individual. You put your own safety (and your family’s) in jeopardy by doing so. Thinking that it wouldn’t is just plain naive.

Yes, I feel sorry for them.

But they had it coming.

DAY SIXTY-FIVE
Charles blogs: Tips for the Mid-Term Exam

Midterm na naman, syempre nangangarag na naman kayo sa pagrereview, so I decided to give some tips on reviewing for specific types of examination, syempre naman, teacher ako…
1. In exams which are essay types, pick ten topics that the teacher is most likely to ask. Then write ten full essays on the likely topics. Of course, if you pick 10 topics that the teacher did not ask, you should seriously consider dropping the course.

2. Some classes have problem solving, pick ten types of problems that will most likely be asked. The solutions will be varied, but pay atttention to the type of problem. Then pick 10 variables that can be changed in each of the 10 problems.

3. A popular type of test is the multiple choice. There are 4 or 5 answers to choose from. To review, make a list of 100 completely true statements on the topic. Figure out what words could be introduced to those statements that would make them false. Then you have an answer pattern. On the test, the answering procedure is this: If you are 100% sure, then that is your answer. More often you are not 100% sure, then do a process of elimination, starting with the a. (or 1.) answer, followed by b. (or 2.) and so on. If you find an answer that you are comfortable with, that is your answer. If not, mark the question (I underline the question number) and go back to it if you have time. If you find that all of the questions are marked, I would recommend dropping the course.

4. When you have absolutely no idea and its not write-minus-wrong multiple choice examination, go for Letter B on odd numbered questions, and C on even numbered questions.

5. In a true or false type, odds on the first question is a FALSE, and the second is FALSE also. If you have exam paper, look for a pattern on the questions, the patter is usually “2 false, 3 true, 2 false, 1 true….”

6. And all other test types are so easy that any variation of the above will work. If it doesn’t, seriously consider changing your major. It is not for you.

So there you go, Good Luck!

Ann blogs: I had a dream

I had a bad dream last night. iwas awake from 11pm to 2:30 in the morning doing revision with my project at EBIO. i had chat with benj and we are both into fun chat because he had not been online for a while. fortunately he was the one making our next challenge for the PBBFG. then i tried to get a project but failed to get it.i felt bad because the topic was about performance management and as managament analyst before, i knew i am well-versed with it. the web admin refused to give it to me inspite of me having to respond first :( then i went to sleep. at first i could not but then suceeded in putting myself off. but then i remember i dreamt, and it was also bad. i had lots of negative this times. i also had that episodes when i feel sullen and alone. i dreamt that there was a war going on, about to spark. me and my sister, with her friend cathy and my cousin alan (who does not fail to text me everytime in real life) were out watching in a theatre. i don't know exactly the place but it is quite familiar, look like the film institute at UP DIliman. ironic bcoz movies are not shown in the film institute but in the UP theatre. at first, i was with alan, and we witnessed the dropping of bombs by airplanes above. i thought it were the japanese, but i overheard from another watching that it were koreans. i was in the rush to find where my sister is. i was already panicking because i could not find her. then i found her! i felt relief! opposite to what i feel, she was very calm and composed. it's unlikely to behave like that during a war. i asked her why she seemed so calm while the environment was in panick already. she replied: ate magsisimula pa lang ang gyera. that was when i woke up. i also felt bad even during sleep.

Jamila blogs: My Grandma's Birthday

Today, Aug. 6, 2006, We had a simple get together here at the house because it is my mom's mom birthday. We had a terrific lunch, about 7:30 in the evening, few of her many friends came to greet her. Some of them texted her on the cellphone, called her on the phone.

UPCAT WEEKEND

So it's UPCAT weekend this weekend. (Parang ang redundant pakinggan). It always happens on the first weekend of August. Coincidentally, the year I took the UPCAT, August 5 & 6 din siya noon! Ang galing no? Whatever.

All week, persistent rumors were flying around if UP would suspend classes last Friday afternoon. Kesyo aayusin daw ang mga upuan para sa UPCAT, haha! Well, it didn't happen. Some classes were being 'cancelled' since Thursday, though. Because the professors / teacher / instructors are missing in action. Haha! Apparently, due to lack of personnel, some of our 'dear' teachers are being shipped to remote places to act as proctors for the UPCAT. Some, I heard, were even sent to Mindanao. Waw diba.

GHOST WHISPERER

Thanks to our Smart Bro, I am now able to download and watch Ghost Whisperer episodes! While it is not as intriguing and engaging as Grey's, this Jennifer Love Hewitt starrer is okay. Considering that I am a Charmed fan, I suppose supernatural stuff does interest me. Well yes, every episode has its scare factor. Some situations are downright creepy if it would happen to you in real life. Don't worry though, even the faint in heart will be able to handle it.

What's weird though is that my eyes water everytime I watch an episode, haha! Putek, nakakahiya! Haha! Crying over a horror / suspense TV show? I mean, how ironically crazy is that?! Anyway, it happens during the part when the restless souls and those who survived them get all dramatic in settling their 'unfinished' businesses. Usually, it's about longing for forgiveness, words unsaid, missed chances, etc. Add the fact that mostly, it's about parents and their children and that one of them died.

Thank God, I haven't experienced a devastating loss in my family so far. Maybe that's why these kind of stories thug my heart. No matter how strong my personality is, I can't imagine if I can handle such great pain. Well, I've lost some dear cousins, aunts and uncles before, but I was too young to remember the pain. Besides, I still remember the good times I spent with them, and it's comforting enough.

__________
SOLITARY EPISODES

The past week, I've found myself wanting to be alone many times. Halimbawa na lang, last Thursday, nag-yayang uminom ang mga orgmates ko. Normally, even if I'm not into drinking that much, I wouldn't say no. I would go but I'm not after the booze, I'm after the bonding.
But I said no, this time. Ewan, wala ako sa mood. Ni hindi man ako pinilit, haha! Kaya ayun, lalu tuloy ako naging determined na mag-moment na mag-isa, haha! Sumama yung mga roommates ko, kaya tahimik sa room pag-uwi ko, and I enjoyed the solitary comfort.

Basta, something was off during the week that just passed. It's one of those times when I'd rather be alone, but I want to be noticed, hehe. It's one of those moments when my self-esteem is strangely low and I feel unappreciated. The weird thing is, I don't know what triggered these episodes. I just hope that this will be over soon.
